Gazette

Martyn Fribbens has resigned as a member of the management committee and from his post as Gazette Editor because of his imminent move to Bahrain. The committee recorded its grateful thanks and appreciation for the great job he had done as Gazette editor and for his work with the juniors. Ron Yates is prepared to take over the job as Gazette Editor if a replacement treasurer can be found.

Application for Grant Assistance – The George

An application has been received from The George for grant assistance to help towards the construction of a new terrain. The new terrain would provide anther 8 pistes giving the venue a total of 16 pistes. Cists incurred so far amounted to £1,588 with further costs relating to plant hire and the installation of lighting still to come. The expense was being met by the club and the pub owner. Having regard to the possible future benefit to the KPA of having a large venue it was agreed to provide a grant of £500 to the George provided more detailed costings were submitted showing the total cost of the project and the amount the club was expected to find.

Brean Sands

The original booking for the chalets had gone astray and it had not been possible therefore to book the full required number of chalets. In view of the potentially cramped accommodation it might not be possible to accommodate players’ spouses etc. In any event as a matter of principle players’ spouses should not be accommodated free of charge. If necessary additional B & B accommodation would be booked outside the grounds and day passes purchased. The regional kit would need to be replaced in the coming year and it was agreed that quotations should be obtained from interested parties. The list of players and managers submitted by the playing committee was approved. Corinne Cooter and Lynn Shrimpton will manage the main squad and challenge squad respectively and Trevor Glenn will manage the junior team. It was agreed that players would be asked to abide by a code of conduct along the lines of the EPA code of conduct.

Nord Maritime

The annual competition between Kent and Nord Maritime will take place on 16 August at Lordswood. Lordswood will provide lunches for 110 people in the lower bar of the main club at a cost of £5 per head. Coffee and drinks will be served in 2 marquees to be erected on the playing terrain. The total cost of the event is estimated at £890. It was agreed that the entrance fee for players (to include lunch) will be £15. per head. It was agreed that 50 KCC tote bags should be purchased at a cost of £35 to be presented to the visiting players.

EPA Matters

The EPA congress had been poorly supported by KCC delegates. Congress had approved with minor amendments a management committee proposal to reform the playing structure for the qualifying series. In future the qualifying series will be replaced by a Premier League and a feeder “Combined” League.

President’s Cup Competition

The president’s cup is due to take place on 13 September and It was agreed that £150 be spent on prizes. Entrance to the competition is open to those participating in the qualifying series who were not selected to play at Brean Sands. Entrance will be free.

Junior Academy Awards

It was agreed that £50 be spent on purchasing trophies for the award winning juniors. These will be presented at the final Academy meeting on 13 September.
